Photography Workshop 9am-4pm Cost $350 inc GST per person. Jane Davenport is an internationally renowned photographic artist based in Byron Bay. Her large-scale outdoor art installations have toured across the world, been enjoyed by millions and featured extensively in the media. Jane’s is Australia’s most successfully licensed photographic artist with card, stationery books and poster ranges available globally. Jane has taught many photo workshops, but this will be the first in her spacious Byron Bay studio. This is a very rare chance to work alongside her. You will leave full of inspiration, new skills and the courage to fully embrace your image making potential! Jane will focus on the close-up and macro world of photography as there are many elements that relate only to this fascinating genre of image-making. Of course, many of the skills you will learn can be applied to any type of subject from landscapes to portraits. You will work with creating arresting still-life compositions and move on to the very challenging and rewarding realm of live subjects. You will work inside the studio and outdoors. This intensive workshop suits photography lovers of all skill levels! You will be creating images throughout the day and Jane will conduct a review of your work. ARTIST STATEMENT: "I found a frangipani grove on the big island of Hawaii, just behind Diamondback Mountain. At the turn-off was a huge radio station antennae thinly disguised as a pine tree. At the entrance was a gentleman to welcome visitors. There was no roof, no walls, just a man in a suit sitting at a desk with the earth beneath his feet, sitting under a grove of frangipanis, gazing at the worlds biggest undecorated christmas tree (Is this where Xmas trees go between Decembers?). The next thing I noticed was the heavenly scent from the hundreds of frangipani trees. Each tree had different coloured and shaped flowers. The feeling of other-worldliness didn't diminish over the hours I spent in amongst the frangipanis. I know exactly how Alice felt as she landed in wonderland." ARTIST STATEMENT:

"Puritan" is from my icon series. I created this image in my garden on Sydney's South Coast. I love it because, I actually grew the flower myself. I shared that garden with a bandicoot who just loved digging for and eating my freshly planted bulbs, so getting any flowers to pop up was a real achievement!

"I created this image during a tour of my exhibition in the USA. This image is from my icon series. The cloud is actually a dandelion 'Clock'. As a child I believed that blowing on a dandelion meant I could make a wish, and if a ladybird landed on me and I let her be, when she flew away of her own accord, i could make another wish. So when the two wish makers join together, does that make for two wishes, or just one really big one?" Jane Davenport

Glycerol is available from pharmacies and some supermarkets. If you cannot get any glycerol, use sugar instead.) Method: 1. Mix the ingredients very thoroughly, the longer the better! A half hour is optimum. A flat stick and a little elbow grease will do the trick. If you are making a large amount, try an electric drill with a paint-stirrer attachment, or even a bent piece of coathanger wire! 2. Pour into a clean, airtight plastic container and leave to sit for at least a day ( if you can wait!) Bubble mix gets better with age! So make up a big batch and leave it to sit for a month. With time, some water may evaporate from the bubble mix and it may need more water added just before use. TIPS from expert Bubble-ologists: There are a few things that may affect how well your bubble mix works: - Humidity can seriously affect your bubbles. Bubbles burst when they dry out, so the more humid it is the longer they last. Bubbles work best at night, in the shade and while it is raining. Air conditioners can dry the air which bursts bubbles faster. - The quality of the tap water in your area may also affect your bubble mixture. Hard water doesn’t work as well as soft water. You may need to try distilled water instead of tap water. - You may need to “fine-tune” your bubble mix, either by adding more detergent or more water. Experiment a little. Remember to stir thoroughly. Froth on the top can interfere with making bubbles. Cleanup Vinegar can be very effective for cleaning up bubble mixture!
